Live album performed in front of 50,000 people in Gdansk, Poland in the Shipyards that inspired the rise of the ‘Solidarity’ labour movement and directly led to the fall of Communism in the Eastern Bloc. David’s band (including Pink Floyd veterans Richard Wright, Dick Parry, Jon Carin and Guy Pratt, plus Roxy Music’s Phil Manzanera) is accompanied on most of the album by the 40-strong string section of the Polish Baltic Philharmonic Orchestra. Orchestra conductor is Zbigniew Preisner, who wrote the arrangements for David’s 2006 No.1 UK/Europe solo album ‘On An Island’. Arrangements on selected Pink Floyd tunes are by the late Michael Kamen. All of the ‘On An Island’ album is included, all with orchestral accompaniment. Selected Pink Floyd songs are also performed, including the 20-minute-plus classic ‘Echoes’, Breathe, Time, ‘Shine On You Crazy Diamond’, ‘Astronomy Domine’ and the following with orchestral accompaniment: ‘High Hopes’, ‘A Great Day For Freedom’, and ‘Comfortably Numb’. ‘A Great Day For Freedom’ was written about the fall of the Berlin Wall, and was performed in Gdansk for the only time on the 2006 David Gilmour tour. Barring ‘Comfortably Numb' this is the first time these songs have been performed live with an orchestra.
