A partire dal prossimo inverno e per tutto il 2009 Universal Music celebrerà il 50°anniversario della Motown, la leggendaria etichetta americana, vera e propria icona della musica mondiale. Il sound della Motown si diffonde in USA negli anni ’60 affermandosi presto in tutto il mondo, un suono unico che dura inalterato fino ad oggi. Oltre 180 canzoni al primo posto in classifica rappresentano il culmine degli innumerevoli successi della Motown. La Motown fu fondata nel 1959 da Berry Gordy, un giovane afro- americano che, non solo ha forgiato nuove basi per l'orgoglio e le radici culturali delle minoranze afro-americane di quegli anni, ma ha reso il sound della Motown un fenomeno adorato da milioni di persone. Per onorare al meglio i 50 anni della Motown, Universal Music riproporrà i dischi storici e fondamentali dell'etichetta, anche in nuove versioni inedite, pianificando nuove pubblicazioni nel corso di tutto il 2009. Per iniziare il 28 novembre 2008 verrà pubblicata una raccolta in 3CD con i grandi successi degli artisti storici dell’etichetta: Jackson 5, Michael Jackson, Marvin Gaye, Smokey Robinson & The Miracles, The Temptations, Diana Ross, The Supremes, Stevie Wonder, e molti altri.
